PSHE & Wellbeing
PSHE is a planned programme of learning opportunities and experiences that help children and young people grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and communities. It is central to the progression of important skills such as personal development, emotional intelligence and resilience, and is essential in helping to embed knowledge and understanding in areas such as; road, fire, water and personal safety, healthy eating, physical activity, mental health & wellbeing, dental hygiene, medicines & drugs, healthy relationships and financial awareness.
Effective PSHE enables children and young people to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes, and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future. PSHE makes a significant contribution to a young person’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, helps to embed and provide a context for a variety of empowering values and virtues – it is essential in underpinning a culture of safety and wellbeing within our schools and educational establishments.
The Government has made it statutory for ALL schools to teach Relationships Education/RSE & Health Education and have stated that this must be in place by September 2020.
