School Business Leader Training Package

A programme of training including courses and onsite support for all new school business leaders, enabling them to become more effective in their new role.  Package includes:

  • Four training courses covering a financial overview, financial planning, period-end procedures and financial monitoring and reporting
  • Four visits providing one-to-one support including:
    • An initial induction visit
    • Support for the first period end
    • Support for the first FMR
    • Follow up visit with a consultant

All above finance courses will be booked on behalf of the school as part of this package.

Course Overview 

This course is for Surrey maintained schools and will look at an overview of the role of school business leaders.

This course will be split into two parts, second date is 2nd March 2021 at the same time, please ensure you can attend both dates.

  • Financial controls

The course is for Surrey maintained schools and is designed to look at the monthly period-end reconciliation and is designed to complement the bespoke training on SIMS FMS.

 

What will the course cover?

  • To work through the theory of performing the month-end accounts closure system on SIMS
  • To understand the reconciliation process
  • A step by step guide of the period end procedures with detailed handouts

Course Overview
This course is designed for Surrey maintained schools and aims to develop a clearer understanding of double entry and how this works in Surrey’s FMS set up. Delegates should gain greater confidence in finding and resolving reconciliation issues.

 

What will the course cover?

  • SIMS FMS double entry bookkeeping and control accounts
  • Year end reconciliation process including producing the CFR

Delegates will gain an understanding of: 

  • How to identify and reconcile differences in the accounts and help you to maximise the use of FMS for reporting
  • Understanding of the LBA reconciliation process and tranche adjustment at year end
  • Understanding of the control accounts used by FMS

This course is for Surrey maintained schools and for any school who uses Surrey County Council Payroll and provides training on the payroll documents required to be completed each month.

Payroll is the largest expenditure of any school. Having trained administrators is vital to ensure the processes are compliant and that staff are paid the correct amount at the correct time.

  • The processes required in school prior to completing the payroll
  • How to complete the various payroll documents

This course is for Surrey maintained schools and is aimed at bursars who are either new in the role or those who would benefit from a refresher on financial year-end procedures.

What will the course cover?

  • An explanation of the procedures required to complete the financial year-end
  • Closing the financial year 
  • Reconciling the school’s accounts with Surrey County Council.

Delegates will gain an understanding of: 

  • To identify the difference between routine period end and year end
  • To understand how to close a financial year
  • To reconcile the year end financial records with Surrey County Council

Orovia

Orovia is a Budget Planning Software (BPS) for Surrey Maintained Schools, the benefits of which include

  • Production of a single year budget plan and a 3-5 year forecast including scenario planning
  • Ability to set up and change salary structures, add new employees & change terms
  • Set up forecast funding & income
  • Using payroll reconciliation & salary monitoring
  • Producing management reports in conjunction with FMS

This training is provided on site, on a one-to-one basis.

This on-site training is directed at School Business Leaders and would involve an initial 3 hours training session.

The BACS training will walk you through the process and provde you with all the paperwork required and ensure you have appropriate internal controls for BACS processing.

PLEASE NOTE that the training is for maintained schools and academies using SIMS FMS.

This training is provided on site, on a one-to-one basis.
